I must say, I would have never dreamt of it! I was at the very inspirational GG2 Awards Ceremony in central London where the Prime Minister David Cameron was Guest of Honour. It was slick, and full of the most amazing role models from all areas of society who have achieved a great deal.
I saw an opportunity to promote a play about the NHS, Tiger Country, to the country’s most influential people. I have previously written about it on my website so I was not expecting to write yet another blog on the subject so soon. But what can I say, I took a deep breath and asked his security staff l how I could grab a few words with the PM himself. He pointed me in the PM’s direction and I just went for it. I was so excited and would you believe my luck – I managed to get a few minutes to chat with David Cameron whilst others around me were left wondering who is this person!
The Prime Minister was genuinely interested in what I had to say about Tiger Country, a play about the life in the frontline in a busy NHS hospital. He even asked his friend Lord Feldman to take my details. I am honoured that they have even got my details. Even if nothing comes of it, I am grateful for the precious few minutes with the PM.
With my new found confidence, I was not going to stop there. With the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Sajid Javid MP also present at the event, I was determined to speak to him. But how do I get a few minutes with him? He was constantly surrounded by well wishers. Luckily Mr Javid’s wife Laura was standing nearby and I asked her. She was so nice and eased me in to get access to Mr Javid himself.
In all, a wonderful evening and I hope that I did justice for Tiger Country. Thank you to GG2 Awards, you made my night. And a special thank you to the Prime Minister, Secretary of State for DCMS and Chairman of the Conservative Party. I do hope that you do manage to go and see the play or even go and meet the cast.
Tiger Country is at the Hampstead Theatre on 8 December 2014 – 17 January 2015
